Am I presbiope?
Computer, smartphone, tablet…These new technologies are now fully part of our daily lives and these usages have negative impacts on our vision.
To live without any discomfort, it’s time to ask yourself the right questions.
How do I know if I’m becoming presbiope?
In young eyes, the lens has the capacity to curve to match the distance of the object a person is looking at. It is this ability to adapt that helps us to see just as well up close as we can from a distance. As the body ages, the lens loses its elasticity, the muscles tighten and any “fine-tuning” becomes increasingly difficult: this is what causes presbyopia.”}”>In young eyes, the lens has the capacity to curve to match the distance of the object a person is looking at. What is presbiopia actually?
A simple definition of presbiopia would be to explain that everyone after its 40’s know a decline of its visual acuity as a consequence of the aging process in the eye. I know someone who is hyperopic…
It’s almost the same, isn’t it?
No, they are 2 different disorders. Hyperopia is a refractive error that’s present at birth that won’t affect the person until its 40s. After its 40s the person will stop to perfectly see at a short distance and then at a long distance. A presbiope, on the contrary, will always have a perfect long distance sight but will develop troubles to see at a short distance after its 45 years old.
When are we becoming presbyobe?
Presbyope development starts from the birth, but is noticeable only from 45 years, when the evolution reaches the point where glasses become necessary.
What are the common symptoms?
If your arms are not longer anymore, if you keep increasing the lighting of your environment, if you have headaches when reading, and you’re more than 45 then your presbyopia is developping. The more you’ll force on to your eyes while your vision is weak, the more you’ll have headaches. All those symptoms tire your eyes, and from the moment you notice it, don’t wait to react and select the best solution to correct this disturbance vision.
How to do an efficient vision test
You can do a near vision test in several places: At home, with an online test. They are the less reliable but they can be useful if you only want an emergency pair of glasses to order online. In pharmacy or malls: more reliable than online tests, you try several pairs with different diopters and to select the one that fits you better. At the optician: it’s where presbyope people should naturally go as he can do a test with much more precision and give you the best advice regarding your correction and situation.
I’m a young presbyope but I’m not ready to use progressive lenses, is there a qualitative alternative solution?
If you are at the beginning of your presbyopia, you can buy ready readers. They are designed to help for reading since their magnyfying effect allows you to clearly see at a near distance and see the sheet you read. They are available without prescription, in pharmacy, online or in malls. Most part of the time, they are not adjested to pupillary distance, different for every single person. On the long term, this can affect your vision and so it’s important that everyone identify their vision problems and needs. Finally, they don’t allow long sight vision which can be annoying in some situations. This is precisely why Magnys is far better than simple ready readers.
I work a lot with computers. Which eyewear will be the best to correct my presbiopia?
The first thing a prebyope does when he realises he need a pair of glasses at work to see his computer and also to see what’s around him, is to buy a pair of degressive glasses. Regarding ready readers sold in malls, they’re not adapted as they only correct vision between 30 and 40cm, distance generally too small compared to the distance between your eyes and the screen of a computer.
I already have ready readers but I don’t read comfortably. Why?
We often associate presbiopia correction with ready readers that don’t bring a good comfort vision and are not adapted to everyone’s troubles. Comfort vision is the result of 2 parameters: correction, determined by an ophtalmologist and pupillary distance, measured by the optician before ordering adapted lenses to your sight. The combination of these two factors will guarantee a correction perfeclty adapted to your morphology and needs.
I bought a pair of ready readers at the pharmacy, but I have headaches when reading. What is your solution?
If you have headaches or you feel your eyes tired, it’s probably because your correction doesn’t bring you comfort vision, as it’s really often the case with emergency glasses bought online, in pharmacy or in malls. Comfort vision criteria can only be taken into account at your optician. This is why it’s important to go to your optician when becoming presbyope.
Does it exist contact lenses for presbiopia?
loads of people don’t want to wear contact lenses because they’re scared of damaging their eyes or not getting used to it. However contact lenses have evolved in a good way these last years and rarely present problems. For presbyopes, this is the most common correction used after glasses. However contact lenses designed only for presbiopia diesn’t exist yet. The only contact lenses what exist to correct presbyopia also correct myopia.
I heard about presbyopia operations. Is it effective?
Objectives of a prebiopia operation are to bring visual autonomy to the patient at every distance, to give him back a qualitative vision with sustainable results even is the case where presbyopia continues to evolve. However you have to be careful to the evolution of your presbiopia: if it’s not advanced enough, results of the operation won’t be definitive and you’ll have to wear glasses again for a couple of months (presbiopia is evolving until 65 years old)
But what is the difference between MAGNYS and regular ready readers?

MAGNYS benefits: Thanks to pupillary distance measurement made in a few minutes, MAGNYS adapts itself to your morphology at the closest millimeter MAGNYS allows a clear promixity vision up to 2 meters, ideal in all situations of everyday’s life (office, games…)
